Gear your LinkedIn profile towards remote work

It’s important that your LinkedIn profile reflects your interest in working remotely. Mention that you are looking for a remote job or career in the “About” section of your profile. If you had an opportunity to work remotely in the past, be sure to add that into previous job descriptions and highlight any success you had with this way of working. This makes it easier for recruiters to immediately establish that they are looking at the right candidates when browsing through profiles.

Edit your job preferences

On your LinkedIn profile you will find an “Edit job preferences” option. You have an option to list “Job Titles” relevant to your desired role. It’s a good idea to include the word “remote” in the job titles as employers and recruiters often have this in their role titles. You can also include numerous job locations in your preferences if you are open to employers in different countries. Remember that different countries mean different time zones. For positions like Virtual Assistants it’s sometimes preferable to have a time zone that overlaps a few hours. Other positions like Software Development often includes project work and thus offers more time zone flexibility. Lastly be sure to tick the “I’m open to remote work” option in your preferences.

Search for remote jobs

If you would like to be a bit more pro-active then check out the “Jobs” section on LinkedIn. Here you can find your next remote gig by searching for a specific title, skill or company. When you click on the location box a dropdown menu should appear with the options “Worldwide” and “Remote”. Both these location options can be useful in finding your next remote job.

LinkedIn is a great portal to expand your reach and connect with potential remote employers. It’s also a good idea to have a look at Indeed for finding remote jobs and speed up the search. List your profile and do frequent checks to find jobs in your skill category.
